Tri the Ridge – Pickens, SC

This was my 2nd Sprint Tri this year.  I had not planned on doing this one due to schedule conflict however that changed so I registered for it 3 days prior to the event.  I would have NEVER done that in the past but since I’ve been training for my Half Iron distance I felt confident I could complete it in a decent time.  My parents were in town visiting so it was nice to have some extra cheers coming my way.

Training:  I have been logging double to triple the distances for a sprint triathlon. Also started taking a masters swim class to help with my stokes technique and drills.  I get really bored just swimming laps and have a tough time staying motivated.  I think having a better swim workout to follow will keep me motivated to get in good duration and distance moving forward.

Nutrition: My diet/nutrition plan has changed over the last 4-6 weeks.  We are moving into a vegetarian life style.  At first I thought it might be really hard but to be honest I rarely have wanted to eat meat since we have stopped.  Still eating fish and eggs.  Consuming dairy and cheese on occasion.  I was afraid I might be hungry or start bonking out from it during the workouts.  Actually I’ve found that my energy is better.  I get fuller faster and don’t seem to be eating as much.

I did this race 2 years ago with a couple friends.  Its a good organized race and nice people.  Below are my times, if I remember I think I did between 8-10 minutes faster than the first time I did this race.   I’m taking way too much time in transition.  I think I worry to much about forgetting something and just double checking what I need with me.  I had trouble getting my RoadId bracelet on and should have just not worried about it.  My next race I will make some adjustments to help speed this up.
